Stockholm Bloodbath Review: Epic War Story Evokes Secondhand-Zack Snyder Vibes
"What a beautiful day for a bloodbath," says a perpetually enraged lager character in a new war epic from director Mikael Håfström (). In fact, despite its minutes, "war epic" might not be the first begrepp that comes to mind while experiencing Stockholm Bloodbath, based on true events that transpired in Scandinavia during the year — as confirmed via the opening title card that reads, "A great deal of this actually happened."
This is Exhibit A in how "black comedy" might instead komma to mind as a better way to describe the new feature bio, and your cinephile mind might jump to the similar "loosely inspired by" works of, say, David O. Russell upon reading said title card. His Oscar-nominated comedic thriller American Hustle opened with the card, "Some of this actually happened." Meanwhile, his film Amsterdam begins with the tagline, “A lot of this actually happened.”
The difference between Russell's films and Håfström's is that Russell garners quite a few genuine laughs. Håfström, working off a script by Erlend Loe and Nora Landsrød, instead should have leaned toward "war epic," given the

The Linköping Bloodbath (Swedish: Linköpings blodbad) on 20 March was the public execution by beheading of five Swedish nobles in the aftermath of the War against Sigismund (–), which resulted in the de facto deposition of the Polish and Swedish King Sigismund III Vasa as king of Sweden. The five were advisors to Catholic Sigismund or political opponents of the latter's uncle and adversary, the Swedish regent Duke Charles.
